The beauty of slavery

Romans 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

How can it be good news to be a slave? What is the blessing of belonging to someone else?

The best answer I’ve heard comes from The Heidelberg Catechism. Well worth a “Google” for your encouragement. It was written in 1563. It’s a set of questions and answers designed to help people learn the great truths of the Christian faith. If I just remembered the first one my experience of following Jesus would be at least a million times more joyful!

Here it is….

Question 1: What is your only comfort in life and death?
Answer: That I am not my own,
but belong with body and soul,
both in life and in death,
to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ.
He has fully paid for all my sins
with his precious blood,
and has set me free
from all the power of the devil.
He also preserves me in such a way
that without the will of my heavenly Father
not a hair can fall from my head;
indeed, all things must work together
for my salvation.
Therefore, by his Holy Spirit
he also assures me
of eternal life
and makes me heartily willing and ready
from now on to live for him.

he also assures me of eternal life                                                                                                                        and makes me heartily willing and ready                                                                                                        from now on to live for him.
